There is nothing that really compares to being backstage in the tents of New York Fashion Week. The buzz of energy, the DJ spinning dance music, bowls of candy and beautiful people were a buzz backstage at NYFW Betsey Johnson fashion show.
I had the pleasure of working with the Kryolan Professional Makeup team for this year NYFW Betsey Johnson fashion show. The energy that was backstage was amazing and the vibe was super fun, but how could it not be since it was Betsey Johnson.
Betsey Johnsons fashion shows are always going to bring a smile to everyones face. Her shows are never too serious and there is always a bit of feminine and whimsical design to her garments. Betsey was awarded the Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion. No, Betsey Johnson fashion show would be complete with her signature cartwheel at the end of every fashion show and this year was no different, Betsey is one young 72 year old fashion icon.
The look for the models was dark and dramatic with a wine shade for the lips. To get this look we first started off by prepping the model’s face with one of the cleansing facial wipes that corresponded with the models skin type and the Simple Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer was applied prior to the makeup application. Once the model’s skin was prepped, we started off by using the HD Cream Liner in Ebony and applying it all over the lid up into the natural crease of the eye. Before the cream sets a matte black eyeshadow was pressed onto the cream, setting the cream for a great unsmudgable eye. The eye was then lined with Skinliner in Ebony along the upper and lower lash line. A few coats of mascara were applied before two sets of lashes were applied one set to the top lash line and another set below on the lower lash line.
Whenever a dark, dramatic eye is done there is always falldown of the dark shadows, making a mess under the eye and sometimes the cheek. Once the eye was all done we cleaned up any falldown with the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes before applying a very light foundation. A little highlight was used from the Illusion Palette along the upper cheekbone and a deep wine color was applied to the lip finishing off the models look with a silver gem that was glued to the cheek just below the eye.
As a makeup artist one of the things that we are always going through so quickly is face wipes and moisturizer, but thankfully Caravan has teamed up with Simple Skincare and their fantastic line of cleansing facial wipes and moisturizers. This was perfect to bring to the backstage of the Betsey show for all the makeup artists to use on their models. Each makeup artist station was set up with one each of the cleansing facial wipes, eye makeup remover pads & gel moisturizer.
