Alysia Reiner Celebrates Opening Night Party for PIPPIN

Alysia Reiner When Alysia Reiner needed a glam session she turns to Caravan Stylist Studio. With a fun event to attend we went with the ideas for her look were endless.

For Alysia’s hair all we needed was a bit of Salon Grafix and a Babyliss Curling Iron. We went with soft curls that were gathered to one side and left loose on the other side. Starting off with a bit of Shaping Hair Spray and then curling the ends of her hair. Her hair was twisted from behind one ear and around the nape of her neck. Once the perfect look was accomplished all Alysia’s hair needed was a finishing spray of High Gloss Hair Spray and her hair was complete and red carpet ready.

When it came to makeup we wanted to play up the colors in her dress. We went with shades of gold and deep plum for her eyes. Using POP Portfolio gave every color a gal could need for a night on the town.

It was time to have a bit of fun with Alysia’s nails and Zoya Nail Polish always has the perfect shade for any occasion. For this event we went with Zoya Nail Polish in the shade of Kamilah. And for the extra bit of glam we did a stripe of gold right above the edge of the nail.

Alysia is an award winning actress, producer, mother, humanitarian, and outspoken environmentalist. She can be seen on everything from the big screen to the stage. Alysia won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance for an Ensemble Cast in the film “Sideways”.

She wore a dress by one of our favorite designer  - Carmen Marc Valvo who is amazing ! Thank you Carmen Marc Valvo and Frank for everything !

DIVAGALS: Black-tie Night Out at Pikolinos Gala

DIVAGALS: Black-tie Night Out at Pikolinos GalaA Gala Dinner hosted by Pikolinos to benefit Maasai African Tribe was held on April 17, 2013 at the United Nations Delegates Dining Room, New York City, New York.

Pikolinos, the shoe company dedicated to creating  jobs for women in Kenya, Africa. DivaGals were VIP guests at a gala dinner hosted by Pikolinos to benefit the Maasai African Tribe, held on April 17 at the United Nations Delegates Dining Room in New York City.

For a night like this – the evening’s hostess was NY socialite and The City alum Olivia Palermo – the DivaGals had to prep!

We turned to Claudine DeSola, owner of Caravan Stylist Studio, a complimentary full service hair, makeup and styling wardrobe studio showcasing over 100 fashion designers from New York and around the world.

Claudine introduced us to celebrity fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo who provided us with the red carpet ready looks pictured above, including the blue-patterned strapless dress with train on TV DivaGal and the black sheath gown with gold cowl neck worn by Luxe Gal.

Our friends, doctor-in-training Wendy Gonzalez and documentary filmmaker Ihuoma Mambo Atanga (far left and third from right, respectively) slipped into sexy gowns by Faviana. Musician Aeden Keffelew (in yellow) wore Ethopian designer Yedidia, while hair expert Debra Hare-Bey sported a hand-crafted creation of colorful braids.

At the Caravan Studio, we were glammed up by Salon Grafix haircarePop Beautymakeup and Zoya nail polish.

The night was filled with our reality TV favorites, including America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway alum Aminat Ayinde, dressed by bridal designer Angelo Lambrou.DIVAGAL

It was a fun filled day at Caravan when we had the pleasure of glamorizing three lovely ladies for a gala dinner hosted by Pikolinos to benefit the Maasai African Tribe. It doesn’t take much when styling these beauties but with a little help from Salon Grafix, POP Beauty, Zoya Nail Polish and BabylissPro the job was a piece of cake.

Here are some quotes from the three lovely gals Caravan styled.

“As I entered Caravan studios at the Carlton hotel, I was welcomed by the lovely Valerie who’s a jane of all trades. Hair makeup nails and wardrobe! Valerie did my nails and added a touch of gold to my fabulous nails. She added real 18K gold flakes on top of my creamy colored nails. Making the final look as glamorous as I felt.” -Aminat Ayinde

“Because Caravan operates from a hotel room in midtown, it doesn’t feel like you’re walking into a ‘traditional’ salon (whether it be for your nails, hair, or make up), but more like you’re walking into a suite with your girlfriends for a good time with all the things you would need to get dolled up. It has an inviting atmosphere, and you have all the products you would need for hair, make up, nails, and wardrobe in one location. The decor is very feminine and fun, much like the ladies who are on staff.” -Anita Lee

“It was a new look. Accentuated my features…did a good job in a short amount of time. She’s passionate about the artistry of make-up much appreciated.” -Aeden

MADE IN THE USA WITH CARAVAN STYLIST STUDIO AT THE CARLTON HOTEL

Made in USAYes, we did it again and it was amazing. Caravan put on a Made in the USA Fashion show that included 4 designers all produced and designed in the USA and two fabulous performers. With the products of Salon Grafix, POPZoya and Babyliss Pro this brought the designers collections come to life on the runway.

The designers that graced the Carlton Hotel showing their collections included Primary, Synderela, Huminska, and Norma Ishak.

When it came to the performers we had something unique that included Tanay. Tanay is a new rising singer, songwriter in. Writing for artist like Amerie, she has scored a Japanese movie in 2002 and won a showcase at the Apollo Theater in New York City. She appeared in the late Michael Jacksons “Remember the time” video expressing her eight-year study in dance.

singer usa show

MTV Made’s Award winning singer-activist Maya Azucena travels the world making music that matters. Self-described as sounding like “The Roots if fronted by a singer with 4-octaves”. Maya has been part of countless collaborations, including a Grammy certificate winning feature on Stephen Marley’s CD “Mind Control,”. In 2010, Maya was heard on multiple tracks from the critically acclaimed album Pickin’ Up The Pieces by Fitz and The Tantrums. Her music has been featured on HBO’s The Wire and her likeness on NBC’s 30 Rock. Maya’s latest CD, CRY LOVE has been listed on several “Best of” 2011 lists including #1 on Pop Matters, and Amazon’s “Top Albums You May Have Missed”.  Maya is wearing a stunning dress by Synderela.

The designers had some beautiful looks for their models and with Caravan, Salon Grafix, Babyliss Pro,POP and Zoya these looks came to life on the runway.

primary pic

Primary’s focus is on individual style and inspired by simplicity, movement, contrast, functionality and ultimately promoting the essential. Primary is most inspired by what women wear on a daily basis, the essential pieces of a modern woman’s wardrobe. For Primary the look for hair was left loose and down with a little bit of a messy wave. To get this hair at home we first prepped the hair with Healthy Hair Nutrition Rerstyler and then gave the hair a liberal spray of Shaping Hair Spray. Once the hair was prepped Babyliss Pro Deep Wave Iron was used on all the hair after the hair had set we gave a light spray of water to loosen the wave and give it a little more of a lived in look. Makeup was a deep dark red matte lip and very neutral eye with POP Makeup. Nails were created by Zoya with a vampy oxblood shade called Rehka and then one finger had a triangle shape cutout.

HUMINSKA

HUMINSKA dress collections are inspired by Hollywood glam and waking dreams. Gorgeous creations that glide with style and ease over any woman’s natural lines, from budding beauty to mature sophisticate. The hair and makeup had a classic look slightly inspired by the 1950’s and some Lauren Bacall. The hair was prepped with Healthy Hair Nutrition Restyler and Shaping Hair Spray after it was curled with Babyliss Pro 1inch curling iron. Each curl was pinned and left to set as long as possible before taking a soft bristled brush to brush out the curls giving the hair shine and body. Keeping the hair to the shoulders and a deep part to one side Freezing Hair Spray was used to really hold that look in place. For makeup POP was all that we needed to give these models that head to toe look. Zoya nails were painted in a beautiful shade of deep red called  Rehka with a french tip and glitter line for the nails.

Synderela

Synderela believes that clothes are the silent words that tell the story of who you are an ambitious spirit, a courageous heart and rebellious style. For the hair style was a little like Veronica Lake inspired with a deep part to one side, a beautiful sleek wave cascading down one side and the other side slicked behind the ear. This look we prepped the hair with Healthy Hair Nutrition Restyler and Shaping Hair Spray after we used a curling iron pinning each curl and left to set as long as possible. This was brushed out with a large soft bristled brush and giving the final touches of High Gloss Hair Spray giving the hair shine and hold. Makeup was all POP with a dark grey smoky eye and a neutral  lip. Zoya Nail Polish was painted in a light shade of pink called Mia.

Norma Ishak

Norma Ishak has been collecting rare and luxurious yarn from around the world is a passion that was acquired from her mother. Together, the mother and daughter duo transform the yarn into unique pieces of wearable art. For Norma Ishak hair look we went with an up-do. The models hair was styled by spraying the hair with Salon Grafix Shaping Hair Spray all over and then backcombing the hair in two sections the top section of hair and the bottom section. The bottom section of hair was then twisted into a french twist with the tufted hair being pinned into a roll shape above the twist. The top section of hair was pinned into a voluminous roll. Makeup was a dramatically extended black cat eye and a nude lip was created by POP Makeup. Nails were the new and amazing polish called PixieDust by Zoya in the shade of Godiva.

BEAUTY AND THE FEAST BLOG – THANKS FOR COMING TO VISIT US!

cosmic-brunch-nails

This was something new: I was invited recently to check out the exclusive Caravan Styling Studio, which is discreetly tucked away on the 2nd floor of the luxurious Carlton Hotel.

Some of Caravan’s beauty sponsors: Salon Grafix, Pop Cosmetics, Babyliss Pro, and Zoya

caravan222

Caravan-studio-stylingTheir services are mainly reserved for celebrities, musicians, editors, and bloggers (hi!) to come together with designers and photographers to be styled and made up for events and special red carpet appearances. I went last week just to see what they were about and when I met Valerie Star, she asked me if I wanted my nails done.

This is when I had to reveal my biggest beauty blogger faux pas:  my nails are entirely neglected. Since I joined a basketball league a few months ago, I have to cut my nails so often because they keep breaking during my games. As a result, they’re down to being little stubs that I rarely paint. Somehow, this didn’t deter Valerie (who also happens to be a painter).

She said she wanted to do a fun spackle design: “I call these party brunch nails.” After seeing her own creation, which we decided to name “Burton-chic,” I knew she’d be the best one for the job.

Tim Burton-chic. She changes up her own nails with intricate designs twice a week!Burton-chic

She promised they’d last til my next bball game so I let her paint away. This is one of those designs that I think would be easy to replicate at home. Here’s how she achieved my nail art design above.

Zoya-nail-polishes-for-nails

Zoya polishes used for this look: Robyn, Goldie, Ginger, Apple, and Mira

Step 1: Paint base of nails with Zoya nail polish in Robynstep-1-robyn-blue

Step 2: Rip a makeup sponge and use one of the jagged edges to dip into the next color, Zoya’s Goldie. Dab over the blue polish sparingly.

Step-2-goldie-1

Step-2-goldie-3

Step 3: Repeat with a clean edge, this time dipping in Zoya’s Ginger.

Step-3-

Repeat the same steps with Apple, and Mira to make even the most stubby chipped nails look a lot more decent:

The best part about a design like this is you can have fun with colors and try a bunch of different combos for a completely different look. Have fun!

Confessions of a Nail Addict “Cosmo”

The Cosmos have been hitting the world of fashion left and right. To keep you on the pulse of what’s hot try Cosmo nails.  I used all Zoya Nail Polish to get my Cosmo nails.

Cosmo Nails

Cosmo Nails

You are going to need

Black polish

White polish

Yellow polish

Orange/coral polish

Blue polish

Gold leafing or gold-flecked polish

Makeup sponge

Paint pallet

Qtips

Polish remover

Cosmo Nails

First you are going to paint your nails with the black polish. Let this dry for about ten minutes. Once its dry take the makeup sponge and rip it into sections. Its best to rip the sponge, you want that uneven texture to the sponge for applying the colors.

Cosmo Nails

Second paint on a corner of the ripped sponge the white and starting in one corner of the nail lightly dab the white on the nail and continue lightly dabbing the white in a slanted shape. Keep the density of the white on only one corner and soften the white while continuing down the nail in a slant. (I change up the direction of each white)

Cosmo Nails

Third paint another corner of the sponge in yellow. Keep the yellow on top and around the white area. Covering almost all of the white with the yellow. You can dab a little bit of the yellow into the black area too.

Cosmo Nails

Forth paint a corner of the sponge in the orange/coral color. Keep this color to the lower portion of the area. Right below the yellow start the orange and go down with it.

Cosmo Nails Fifth use a thin smaller piece of sponge and paint the blue polish on. Dab this just around the outer areas of the painting. This is done sparingly and only to the outside of the colors keeping the outermost edges in black.

Once you are done with this I let the nail dry all the way and with a toothpick spot on clear polish and lay a sheet of gold leafing on the nail. Let this dry and using a dry brush dust away the extra leafing.

Cosmo Nails

If you don’t have leafing you can you a gold leaf nail polish or gold glitter nail polish. This is a little less precise but still gets the job done.

- Now put a top coat on and you are ready to go

Prom Inspired Hair & Makeup with Lenay Dunn and Style Haul

Lenay Dunn WWE Superstars Sandy Relief

You may know Lenay Dunn from her show on MTV called “10 on Top”. Lenay became the host of MTV’s “10 on Top,” a show that follows the top ten talked about celebrities of the week. The show airs on Saturdays at 11:30 am (ET). She was also filmed in a dozens of MTV short films called “Summer Wraps.”

Girls just want to have fun and that’s just what we did. Lenay and ME (aka) Valerie Star shot a prom inspired style video for Style Haul YouTube, Seventeen Magazine, MTV, Hello Style, and Leaf YouTube.

Fun was what we had when we were shooting this video. First we took a minute to look through Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Beauty Book and get an idea of what look we were going to do. For the hairstyle we chose a modern finger wave and makeup was a silver eye with a classic black liquid liner.

To recreate this hairstyle all you need are a few fantastic products from Salon Grafix and the Deep Wave Iron from Babyliss. We started the hairstyle with a spray of Healthy Hair Nutrition Restyler and a liberal spraying of Shaping Hair Spray. Once the hair was prepped and ready we used Babyliss Deep Wave Iron. Create a deep part to one side of the hair for this section of hair you will want to position the iron to flow with the direction of the parted hair. Taking small sections of hair with the Deep Wave Iron and crimp a portion of the hair closest to the scalp holding the iron in place for 5 seconds, release and move the iron down the same section of hair and repeat. Spray each section with Shaping Hair Spray and continue till all the hair is done. Let the hair cool and the waves to set before combing the waves out and styling. When you comb the waves you will see a beautiful elegant flow to the hair. In the front of your hair where you have the part, take the smaller section of hair and gather it pulling it behind the ear. Using Salon Grafix Freezing Hair Spray to really give it that no budging effect. Use a few bobby pins to hold the hair in place behind the ear and a few bobby pins to hold the front cascade of hair in place. When using the Freezing Hair Spray it really gives the front sections of hair a true staying power and you have a look that will last you all night long. Now you have the perfect modern finger wave.

Lenay Dunn WWE Superstars Sandy Relief

Silver glamour was the makeup look that inspired us when looking through Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Beauty Book. To get this look at home all you need are a few key items we used POP Beauty for all our makeup needs. Starting off with the eyes we used Lid Monochrome sweeping a brilliant shade of silver over the entire lower portion of the upper lid, the inner corner of the eyes and on the lower lash line. Blending a natural flesh tone of shadow onto the area below the brow and into the silver. Using My One Liner liquid liner on the top lid right on the lash line and extending the liner just a bit to the outer corner of the eyes. Keeping the bottom lash line with only the silver shadow. For picture perfect completion we used Beam Base Primer creates a plump & subtly glowing skin finish, evens out skin tone and keeps makeup in place & looking flawless all day.  Cheeks were fresh and dewy with Blush Beam that gives a beautiful illuminance to the skin.

When picking out what nail color to paint the perfect choice was Zoya Nail Polish and the go to color of the night was Zoya PixieDust in the lovely red shade called Chyna. This new and exciting formula of polish gives you everything in one textured, matte and a sparkling finish.

Not only did we shoot the prom inspired video, but after it was all said and done Lenay changed from one KahriAnne Kerr outfit to another stunning piece by KahriAnne Kerr with heels by Mia to attend the WWE Superstars for Sandy Relief at Cipriani in New York City Wall Street area on April 4, 2013.

And since we love working with Lenay we have just a few more images from some of her red carpet appearances.

From Best Dressed Guests: We love a good crop top moment, andLenay Dunn demonstrated how to wear the trend the right way at last night’s “Disconnect” screening. She opted for a Tabii Just high-waisted skirt, so that only a few inches of midriff showed. We also love the red and navy pairing of the Tabii Just outfit, a standout color combo for the season

1920′s Finger Wave done Modern by Salon Grafix and Babyliss Pro

miss nyc

Miss New York USA Joanne Nosuchinsky attends the 16th Annual ASPCA Bergh Ball at The Plaza Hotel. With a classic old Hollywood look the modern finger wave was the way to go. If you have ever wondered how to recreate a modern finger wave it’s easy when you have the right tools.

At Caravan Stylist Studio we started Joanne’s look products from Salon Grafix giving the hair a spray of Healthy Hair Nutrition Restyler and a liberal spraying of Shaping Hair Spray. Once the hair was prepped and ready we used Babyliss Deep Wave Iron. Create a deep part to one side of the hair for this section of hair you will want to position the iron to flow with the direction of the parted hair. Taking small sections of hair with the Deep Wave Iron and crimp a section of the hair closest to the scalp holding the iron in place for 5 seconds, release and move the iron down the same section of hair and repeat. Spray each section with Shaping Hair Spray and continue till all the hair is done. Let the hair cool and set the waves before combing the waves out and styling. When you comb the waves you will see a beautiful elegant flow to the hair. Where you have the part in the hair take the smaller section gather section of the hair and pull behind the ear and around the nape of the neck. Using bobby pins to hold in place. Letting the front section hold its form by spraying Freezing Hair Spray. Now you have the perfect modern finger wave.

For Makeup we used POP Beauty giving Joanne a old Hollywood Glamour look. Her eyes were a light golden bronze with a dark black liquid liner and lashes that went for miles. Matching her Carmen Marc Valvo dress with a dark crimson red and contouring her cheekbones. Giving Miss New York her red carpet look that turns heads.

Tony Award winner Nikki M. James Photo Shoot

When you think about what makes New York City unique the Broadway Theater comes to mind.  Commonly called simply Broadway with over 40 professional theaters and last year the ticket sales reached $1,081 billion. If you were one of the 12million that took to the theaters to enjoy a show you just might have seen the charismatic personality of

Nikki M. James.

nikki james

Nikki James

The Carlton Hotel and Caravan had the honor of working with Nikki for a photo shoot. Taking over the decadent room that is fittingly called Broadway Diva in the Carlton Hotel it was lights camera action for Nikki. Wearing a dress by BCBG, Prada shoes and jewelry by Kira Kira she looked amazing. Working with a natural beauty it didn’t take much to style Nikki’s look. Salon Grafix products gave her the perfect hairstyle. We used a bit of Healthy Hair Nutrition Restyler before running a Babyliss flatiron through her hair. Once we got the perfect style we gave it a spray of ChromaLogica High Gloss Hair Spray to give shine and hold that looks and feels natural. For Nikki’s makeup we used POP Beauty featuring her eyes with a bronzed smoky lid, highlighting her cheekbones with Sun Bronzer and natural red sine to her lips. Nails were kept a natural shade with Zoya Nail Polish in the shade of Jacqueline. She was ready to take on the Broadway Diva room at the Carlton. We were very luck to work with the photographer King Perez de Tagle of Kimatherapy.com for the photo shoot.

Nikki M. James can be found in her most recently performed role on Broadway in the new musical The Book of Mormon, for which she won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Nabulungi.
