It is always a pleasure to work with Nanette Lepore for all her glam needs. The last glam session we did was for interview for The New York Times. You can find out lots of great tips here !! Nanette Lepore is one of the coolest ladies out there so we want to try a lot of the great items she mentions – especially the oils !
The fashion designer Nanette Lepore, 49, who recently dressed New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, and their daughter, Chiara de Blasio, for his inauguration ceremony, is releasing a line of products for the home this month. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she lives and works in Manhattan. Her beauty habits, like her fashion, are flirtatious and youthful.
I’m really kind of a routineless person. I have some 20 products right now, and there isn’t any particular order to them. I do love to put lots of oils and moisturizers on. I love to try new products, and I have some favorites. After showering — I’ve been trying this Tracie Martyn Enzyme Exfoliant in the shower — I use this rose body lotion from Santa Maria Novella religiously. The formula is thin, and it really sinks into your skin. I also like this coconut oil that I get from health-food stores.
For the face, some mornings, I use a heavy anti-aging cream. I like the ones by Natura Bissé. I’m currently using the Inhibit-Tensolift, but it’s like $750, so I use it only once in a while, and sparingly. I also like the Diamond Extreme Eye, and I have the Cure Sheer Eye cream.
Then I also use lots of oils. I’m a dry person. I recently fell in love with this argan oil from Kahina. A friend recommended it. I’ll use it for my face and rub some in my hair. I’ll also go to the drugstore and buy this olive oil made for the face called O3. I’ve seen a lot of dry oils recently, but I don’t think it makes any sense. I want oil because I want to feel it. Then some mornings, if I’m feeling really tired, like for fashion week, I’ll put on this retinol eye mask by Shiseido. It makes me feel better, as if I just brightened my face. I also like Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief. It’s like a pick-me-up.
Then I’ll replenish all day. I keep this Shiseido revitalizing emulsion at my desk. They discontinued the one I like, and I bought like 30 bottles. I’m down to six bottles in my fridge now. If I run out, I don’t know what I’ll do. If I’m flying, I’ll keep this Tata Harper roll-on oil with me.
Some nights, I admit I’m too lazy to take off my makeup. When I do, I use an oil cleanser by Origins and a Chanel eye-makeup remover. Then it’s the creams and oils. Every night it’s different.
Natura Bissé has this cream that’s like a tinted moisturizer. I’ll use that instead of foundation. I can’t settle on a foundation that looks right on my skin, so I gave it up. Now I only use it if I have to have my picture taken. Then I use YSL Volume Effet mascara religiously. I try to put it on later in the day, because I rub my eyes a lot. Sometimes I’ll wait until the workday is over, and I’ll put it on if I have an event. I also have a Stila black eyeliner I love. I decided this fall that I was going to start wearing eyeliner and mascara every day. That was my big decision: to make me look bright and alive.
For cheeks, I use Tarte’s stain. I tend to do the same thing with lipstick that I do with other things. For every day, it’s basic, and sometimes I’ll put on a crazy color. If I’m going out, I’ve been really using this Chanel red lipstick lately.
I recently discovered Ojon conditioner, which is really luxurious, creamy and great. I got it in a gift bag, and now I’m going to track it down and get it. I also use Nigelle AX shampoo. It’s a color-sensitive one. Occasionally I’ll do a curling iron, and I’ll use Fekkai Glossing cream and Curl Shaper cream. I don’t like to blow my hair dry. I have a natural wave. When people blow-dry my hair straight, I don’t feel like myself.
Usually, I have my hair cut and colored at my kitchen table. Lee Bennett from Salon O2 has been doing it forever, and I’m really lucky that she’ll come over at 8 a.m., and by 9:30 I’m in the shower and then to work.
My big indulgence is the Tracie Martyn facial. I don’t go as often as I would like. When I’m in the groove, it’s nice to go every six weeks, but it’s more like every three months now. Every once in a while, when I’m in the Hamptons, and we have an overripe avocado, I’ll whip up my own face mask.
For my mani-pedi, I go to a place on my corner called Nice Nails that has a pretty interesting clientele. You would be surprised. There are some male celebrities who go there. Right now, I’m sporting radiant orchid on my toes. For the holidays I was wearing this beautiful blue-silver. I usually just pick from the Essie colors they have there. I’m not allowed to do color on my fingers because I pick it off. So I do one coat of Mademoiselle or Ballet Slippers, which are both sheer.
DIET AND FITNESS
Wine and coffee, do those count? If I’m out in the Hamptons, I’ll swim at least 15 minutes a day. I do yoga occasionally. Otherwise, I’m running up and down my stairs and all around my design room nonstop.
