Siggy Flicker

Host of VH1’s “Why Am I Still Single” joined us at Caravan for a very special night of Q&A’s. In a room full of New York City’s single men and women, Siggy gave hope to all, and shed some light upon the never ending quest to find “Mr. or Misses right”. Our makeup and hair expert got the chance to chat with some of the women that night and realized that while most of the women were experts on playing the “game”, always trying to be one step ahead of their potential Mr. Right…many overlooked the value of a first impression. Here are key elements for first date looks that could help every woman out there, from the inside, out….

FLAWLESS SKIN

1. If you’re a minimalist: If you tend to not wear a full face of makeup on a daily basis, keep it that way for your first date. Flawless glowing skin is key! Find a foundation or tinted moisturizer that suits your skin tone the best and apply all over the face to create an even base. Start your face prep with DDF ‚Äì check out all their amazing products at www.ddfskincare.com.

Sweep on a bronzer that is 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin tone onto the places the sun would naturally touch your face. A sweep at the hairline, down the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, and chin will leave you with a sun kissed glow. A layering of ULTA’s Radiant Bronzer on top of ULTA’s Glow Bronzer does just the trick.

Add a hint of a neutral shadow like ULTA’s Eye Shadow in Bone or Naked and finish with ULTA’s Amped Lashes Mascara in Black/Brown to define your lashes.

Add a dab of neutral lipstick like ULTA’s Lipstick in #229 for a natural look. You don’t want to go overboard and step out of your comfort zone. Chances are, if he asked you on a date to begin with, he already likes what he sees and doesn’t care for too much makeup.

2. For the bold: If you do tend to wear a full face of makeup on a daily basis, and love to play with color, go in the same direction for your first date…..but don’t go overboard! Apply a medium to heavy coverage foundation like ULTA’s Face Compact Foundation. Set your base with a translucent powder like ULTA’s Face Pressed Powder.

Next, define your cheekbones and jaw line with ULTA’s Bronzer in Glow, and add a peachy blush like ULTA’s Cheek Color in Girlie to the apples of your cheeks to make them pop.

Black eyeliner is always the classic “go-to” to define your eyes. Try ULTA’s Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Black. However, if your the sassy type, choose a color that’s a little more fun. Try to coordinate your eye shadow color with what you are wearing or choose a color that brings out the color of your eyes. For example, if your eyes are brown, choose a steele blue or moss green. For blue eyes, choose a gold, copper, or chocolate brown. Whatever color you choose, make sure to use an array of hues in the same color family to create depth by creating a smokey, sultry eye. Pair with a nude, glossy lip like ULTA’s Super Shiny Lip Gloss in #07.

LOCATION

Always keep in mind the location of the date. Lighting is key. An intimate date at a fancy restaurant usually tends to have soft lighting, which will give your skin a natural glow. In this case, go easy on the eye liner and let the lighting do the work.

If the date is taking place at more of a lounge/club scene, its ok to go a little heavier on the makeup in general, as the lighting in those types of settings tends to be dark or very dim. You may also want to consider choosing a shadow that has a hint of sparkle to really make your eyes pop.

HAIR

Hair should always be kept neat and clean. Pull back in a low chignon, ponytail or bun, or just simply blow it out sleek and smooth. Elegant hair pairs well with a full face or minimal face of makeup. You never want to accentuate both hair and makeup. Downplay one or the other for a look that is more naturally beautiful, rather than looking like your trying way too hard to get his attention.

MOST IMPORTANTLY…

Be comfortable in whatever you wear and whatever look you choose. The more comfortable you feel on the inside, the more beautiful you will feel and be on the outside!
